Maiko Mathiesen has a BA in Political Science from the University of Tartu and a MA in Political Ecology & Degrowth from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In addition to his input at Research & Degrowth, he is currently researching the Estonian meat industry's effects on nature and society.

Maiko Mathiesen is on a mission to transform the socio-economies towards an ecologically and socially just system. He believes DEGROWTH has many answers on how to accomplish this. The framework of degrowth is about decreasing material footprint and expectations, leaving behind consumeristic values and doing things together in a community while sharing returns and benefits fairly, inter- and intrastate.
